Helen & Ryan’s Lively 40th Birthday Celebration at Rylands Farmhouse, Wilmslow

There’s nothing quite like a milestone birthday to bring people together for an unforgettable night, and Helen & Ryan’s joint 40th birthday party at Rylands Farmhouse in Wilmslow was exactly that—a high-energy, fun-filled evening with over 150 guests, great music, and a vibrant atmosphere.

A Night of Celebration and Fun

From the moment guests arrived, it was clear that this would be a night to remember. Helen’s only request was that everyone had an amazing time, and that’s exactly what happened. With a live band setting the mood early in the evening, followed by a DJ to keep the dance floor going late into the night, the party never lost its momentum.

The dress code was smart casual, but guests elevated the look—ladies arrived in stylish dresses, while the men opted for trousers or jeans, mostly paired with shirts and blazers. The theme colors of black, red, and white were subtly woven into the décor, creating a classy yet fun aesthetic.

A Stunning Venue: Rylands Farmhouse Tipi

One of the highlights of the event was the exclusive tipi at Rylands Farmhouse, a beautiful and versatile space that provided both indoor and outdoor areas for guests to mingle. The tipi, elegantly lit and weather-resistant, created the perfect setting—whether guests were enjoying the sunshine during the golden hour or dancing inside as the night went on.

With two bar areas, one inside the tipi and another outside on a deck, drinks flowed effortlessly, and the excellent staff ensured that everything stayed spotless. Outside, groups gathered on wooden benches, soaking in the sunset while chatting, laughing, and enjoying the live music.

Entertainment & Atmosphere

The live band got the party off to a fantastic start, performing for around two and a half hours before the celebration moved inside for the DJ set. By 8:30 pm, the dance floor inside the tipi was packed with guests ready to continue the festivities.

One of the most memorable touches was the red and white heart-shaped sunglasses provided by the couple. Not only did they fit perfectly with the theme, but they also became a fun accessory for guests, especially as they danced the night away.

Food & Drinks

Helen & Ryan ensured their guests were well-fed with incredible catering from Flaming Hog, known for their mouthwatering dishes. Later in the evening, an Poppy’s ice-cream van made an appearance—a huge hit, especially as guests took a break from dancing to indulge in a sweet treat.

Capturing the Energy & Joy

As a photographer, I thrive on capturing the energy and emotions of an event, and this party was a dream to shoot. The candid images of guests laughing, dancing, and simply enjoying the moment tell the story of the night in a way that posed photos never could.

One of my favourite aspects of photographing this event was using a special photography technique that captures the movement on the dance floor in a unique and dynamic way. This approach truly brings out the vibrancy and excitement of the night, making the images stand out from standard event photography.

I also took advantage of the beautiful golden hour to steal Helen & Ryan away for a quick couple’s shoot—just five minutes to create some stunning portraits bathed in warm evening light. Later, as the evening transitioned into a more intimate, party-focused setting, the tipi was illuminated by fairy lights and the DJ’s colorful setup, creating the perfect backdrop for lively dance floor shots.
